The Election Commission on Friday barred Uttar Pradesh Congress candidate Ajay Rai from campaigning for 24 hours after he made objectionable remarks against PM Narendra Modi and the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Censuring Rai for violating the poll code, the Commission said the ban commences at 8.00 am on Saturday, PTI reported.

Rai, who is contesting from the Pindara seat, had made the objectionable remarks in a live Facebook post in January, following which the EC had served him a notice.

On Friday, the Election Commission of India said that it had seized items such as cash, drugs,

And other freebies worth more than Rs 1,000 crore during the ongoing elections in the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday trained his guns on the Samajwadi Party

And the Bahujan Samaj Party, accusing them of promoting “mafia raj” in Uttar Pradesh during their rule as he campaigned for BJP candidates in Pratapgarh.

Though he was addressing an election rally in Rampur Khas, from where veteran Congress leader Pramod Tiwari’s daughter Aradhna Mishra is seeking a third consecutive win,

Shah only made a passing reference to the Congress while talking about ending Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, PTI reported.

Raja Bhaiya vs Akhilesh bhaiya: In ‘foregone’ Kunda, a new contest

Elections have come and gone, governments have changed, friends have turned rivals,

And the Yogi Adityanath has been tomtomming how it has tamed bahubalis.

But if there is one seat that has remained untouched by these power upheavals,

For six Assembly elections now, it is Kunda.

And, even if the talk of his crocodile pond is now an urban legend,

If there is one king of Kunda, it is Raghuraj Pratap Singh a.k.a Raja Bhaiya.

As internal calculations intensify, Cong hopes pinned on Channi factor working

After discussing its exit polls, ruling Congress in Punjab is now hinging its hope for success on SC votes to reach the magic number of 59 in the Assembly of 117 members.

Having named Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as its Chief Ministerial candidate so as to attract SC voters in a state,

Which has the highest SC population of 32.5% in India,

The Congress is feeling it can only wrest victory if the SC votes were polled by Congress candidates.

“It is difficult to make out at this juncture if the SC votes went to Congress candidates.

If the SC support has translated to votes for us,

then we are the happiest party after results. Even if we were able to manage 55 to 60% of Dalit population to vote for us, only then we will be able to scrape through.

Otherwise, it looks difficult. We may have to be satisfied with 35 plus seats,” a party leader said.
